I have heard that the United States produces 75% of the world's software. I doubt that that level can be sustained in the long run, so we can expect increases in offshore software development. This might even help in some small way to balance world income distribution. I understand that companies in India, Singapore, Taiwan, Ireland, Hungary, Korea, etc. are producing proprietary and packaged software for the US (and other countries). I'm writing a column on Latin American software and would like input. Does anyone have personal experience with these projects? How do they work out? What are the payoffs and difficulties? What sorts of planning, subsidies or infrastructure do the producing governments provide? Etc. Does anyone have pointers to articles, case studies, reports, etc. in this area? Laurence
