I know a VERY worthy young person (13 yrs old, female) who spends 4-5 hours a day doing her homework. She starts high school this year and wants to join the band, but doesn't see how she will have time for their concerts and outside-school-hours rehearsals. After some questioning, I found a lot of her homework time is spent rewriting papers, so a word processor and printer would really help. Problem: her mom (sole supporter) makes about $7000/yr and she has two siblings (10 & 12). Mom cannot afford more than $200 for a computer. Are there any sources for help in this situation? Are there any foundations which help needy kids get computers? She is REAL smart (thats why so much homework, she's in a gifted student program) so could learn to use any computer she could get (of course I'd help her learn if she needs it) Alternately, any of you out there have a computer sitting in your garage that has been replaced by one bigger and better? Would you loan it to a worthy cause? She lives in the Olympia, WA area (if this makes a difference) and I am in Seattle. Thanks in advance for any leads! Jann VanOver
