The subject above is the title of a talk by Professor Frank Evans
at MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering), Schroeder Library -
Schroeder Room (2nd floor), 500 E Kilbourn on Tuesday Sept 25th at
7:30 pm. This talk is for the monthly meeting of the Milwaukee
Chapter of the Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility
(CPSR), a public interest organization of professionals in the
computing field.

Professor Evans' talk will review individual privacy as impacted
by computerized databases. The Federal Privacy Act of 1974, the
Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the proposed Data Protection Act
will be discussed. Examples of the impact of these systems on
individuals lives will be given. Privacy law in Sweden and West
Germany will be outlined. Finally, steps that individuals can take
to reduce the impact of these systems on their livbes will be
suggested.

Professor Frank Evans has more then 25 years experience in computing,
and has been at the Milwaukee School of Engineering since 1981. He
holds an MS in Computer Science from the University of Houston,
1974. His interests include machine vision, databases, and data
structures.
