Pennsylvania Student Pugwash is hosting a mid-Atlantic states' regional
conference to explore the ways in which new information and communications
technologies are restructuring American society. In particular, we aim
to inform students about recent innovations and to analyze the social
ramifications of these technologies.

The conference structure will include both seminar and symposium formats,
as well as interactive experiences with some of these technologies. We
are presently looking for speakers on subjects of:

	* Historical Development of the Information Based Society

	* Interface Overload: Adapting Ourselves to High
	  Speed, Mass Communication

	* Telecommunications and The Gulf War

	* Prospects and Problems of AI

	* Computer Applications for the Environment

Issues of change will be emphasized in interdisciplinary working groups.
Each of the four groups will focus on transformation in a distinct context:

	* The Political Economy of Information

        * Mass Media and Information Control

	* Constitutional Rights and the Role of the State

        * Education and Academia

Interested professionals are invited to attend as senior participants,
to engage students in stimulating discussions of these topics.

Any suggestions for speakers, topics, or resources may be e-mailed to Dann
Sklarew at the addresses below. Inquiries by potential senior participants
should be made as soon as possible.

Graduate and undergraduate students of all disciplines presently attending
mid-Atlantic colleges may request an application directly from the national
office of Student Pugwash USA*. For further information, contact Brent
Hopkins at SPUSA.
