As someone who has been with NBC for many years I can only say how amazing it is that someone would suggest NBC covers stories to boost GE`s earnings. On the network level one damn well better have learned to be as impartial as possible if one expects to last. People who cover network news with bias, or with even with self-aggrandisement in mind, end up pounding the pavement looking for work. Sorry to tell you, sir, that what with the cutbacks GE has imposed upon NBC the only people left at the net are those with years of experience and expertise. If GE imposed requests or even guidelines for coverage upon us we`d leave. It`s easy for people ignorant of the high standards and qualifications of those inside the News Division to claim we`re all low-brows. But what we do is explain very complex issues in ways that allow the general public to get a handle on what`s going on. How brilliant would you look if you had to explain everything in your field this way? I don`t presume to call you an idiot because of your views, but you are laboring under a facile and common misunderstanding of what NBC is all about. Speaking for myself and, if I may, for my friends and associates, we have high standards. GE isn`t dicatating to us what stories we do or how we do them. Have you any idea of the furor of news stories that would emerge if they chose to do this??? John Richard Bruni

Do you happen to know NBC's policy on coverage of anti-war protests? Peter Hughes
