CALL FOR PAPERS: "THE NINTENDO CONFERENCE ON VIDEO GAMES AND
AMERICAN CULTURE" - LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY - GALT HOUSE HOTEL -
MARCH 18-21, 1992.

I invite your participation in the first annual "Nintendo
Conference on Video Games and American Culture." To insure the
largest possible audience, I am organizing a "conference within a
conference" in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Popular
Culture Assn., Louisville, KY, March 18-21, 1992. About 1800
individuals will be on the PCA general program. I hope to
arrange a minimum of eight sessions for video game scholars and
enthusiasts to present their research, to participate in open
forums and panel discussions, and to share insights and
information.

It is important to note that Nintendo does not desire any
control over the format of the sessions or content of the papers.
There is no requirement whatsoever that papers be favorable
toward video games. Nor is it required that papers present
findings related only to Nintendo--all research on video games,
including studies related to Nintendo's competitors and to
commercial games found in such settings as bars, malls, and video
parlors is most welcome. Plans include at least one session in
which creators and programmers of video games meet with us to
present their insights and to respond to questions. Other events
and receptions to be announced as the conference approaches.

You may participate in the "Nintendo Conference" in several
ways: present a formal paper based on your research; reprise a
paper which you have previously presented at another conference;
serve as a session chair or a discussant; be part of a panel
discussion. If you wish, you may feel free to organize a
completed paper session (including no more than three formal
papers) and/or panel discussion around a theme or topic of your
particular interest (for example, "Violence and Video Games"). I
invite you to forward copies of this notice to anyone who may be
interested.

I will begin laying out the sessions and organizing the special
events associated with this conference by Sept. 1, 1991, so time
is of the essence. Please let me know by August 25, 1991, (via
the mail, please), if you will be able to contribute in any
fashion. I hope that you will be able to join us in Louisville.
