Regarding the inquiry in a recent WORKS Digest: 1) 17 of the 24 authors in the book, "Smalltalk-80: Bits of History, Words of Advice," recently published by Addison-Wesley, were not "people who wrote the system," but people from universities or companies other than Xerox who implemented or used the system. 2) The Xerox 1100 Scientific Information Processor has had the Smalltalk-80 system as an option for two years. The Tektronix 4404 Artificial Intelligence system announced and demonstrated at AAAI this year comes with the Smalltalk-80 system as standard. Syte Information Technology, Inc. has also announced the availability of the Smalltalk-80 system on their machine. An implementation of the Smalltalk-80 Virtual Machine that runs on the Sun Microsystems workstation is also available on an unsupported basis from a group at U. C. Berkeley.
