A couple of people mailed me asking where I got the pricing to support the statement "10baseT hubs are getting down to the $50 per port range", which I made in a posting about a week ago. I had to hunt around and find the ad, and I have been distracted with other mundane thing like actual WORK, so I haven't answered until now. There is a place advertising 10baseT hubs for $695, which they say have 14 ports. After reading the ad a little closer, I saw that they really only have 12 ports, and an AUI port, and a BNC "port". My guess is that the AUI/BNC are actually the same port. We have a DigiBoard Terminal Server which has two ports on the back, but you switch between them depending on the media (cable) you are using. They aren't two ports. Just like on the back of a 3com card. So 12 ports, plus the one for cascading gives you a price of just under $60 per port, given shipping and such. By the way, the ad is in the back of LanTimes. Does anyone else have some prices to 10baseT? Try to keep the postings from becoming too "salesy". -- Andrew C.
