Several weeks ago I replied to an article posted in this news group by
Jacob Palme. Since posting my very cynical reply, I have received
numerous comments via e-mail. If those individuals who have appointed
themselves as net police will refrain from telling me I am posting to
the wrong group (net.foot-in-mouth, net.apologies?), I would like to
make a public apology.
When one is cynical, there exists the possibility (especially in this
forum) that some will be offended. For those I have offended, I extend
my sincerest regrets. In particular, if I have offended Jacob Palme (I
received no such indication from him - he may be too much of a
gentleman to say anything or simply confident enough in his own
abilities so as to not take my ravings seriously), I give him my
apologies also.
In fact, my purposes would have been better served if I had addressed
my opinions on FORTH (a software development horror!) or the creation
of new languages for a specific development (my opinion, generally a
bad idea). In the future I will try to be more objective (or at least,
kinder) in the way I state my opinions.
Of course, when I made reference to Mr. Palme graduating from college,
I was alluding to the honorary degree he should receive for his many
contributions to the practice of computer science (I don't suppose any
of you will buy that excuse :-).
