In reply to Earl Shaffer's request, I would suggest the following IBM
publications on LU-6.2 (a.k.a., APPC):
GC30-3084: SNA Transaction Programmer's Reference Manual for LU Type 6.2
SC30-3269: SNA Format and Protocol Reference Manual:
Architecture Logic for LU Type 6.2
The former is a pretty good all-around introduction to LU-6.2 from the
point of view of a "user" (i.e., a program running in the "application
layer" and using the LU-6.2 services). I recommend it to anyone and
everyone who comes knocking at my door wanting an introduction to LU-6.2.
The latter (the "FAP Manual") is pretty heavy reading, and tells you more
than you ever wanted to know about the workings of the protocols. I have
to admit that I haven't read through this tome since about 1983 (before
it was available externally), although the ratio of prose to pseudo-code
has increased since then, so things have to have improved.
There is some general, high-level background on SNA (including a bit on
LU-6.2) in the following two publications:
GC30-3072: SNA Concepts and Products
GC30-3073: SNA Technical Overview
All of these are available through your local IBM Branch Office.
Hope this helps...
