[comp.protocols.misc] XNS packet type of 8

cyrus@hi.unm.edu (Tait Cyrus) (06/06/88)

I am trying to find out what packet type of 8 is under XNS. I know
that packet type of 1 is for routing, 2 is for echo, 3 is for error, 4 is for
packet exchange, 5 is for sequenced packet and 16-31 are experimental, but
I don't know what 8 is.

The hardware that is producing a packet type of 8 is an Ungermann-Bass
NIU-180 Model: 2281A (I have not taken the time to check to see if
there are other XNS `devices' using type of 8).

What is packet type of 8 used for? What is the format of the packet?
Are there any other packet types that are used that I have not mentioned?
If so, what are they and what are there packet formats?

Thanks in advance for any information.
