I need some help from anybody who has knowldge about ibm system 34 communication protocols. In particular I would like to download files from a System 34 to a Macintosh and back. I have been told by some people that the System 34 does not have any serial communication ports. I have also been told that it does, but that they are not at all RS232/RS422 like. In particular somebody suggested I needed a protocol converter. Somebody else suggested software that could make the Macintosh 'talk' to the IBM (how I don't know). The funniest suggestion so far however came from IBM. They told me to buy an IBM pc with a System 34 emulation board. After downloading files to the PC, I could transfer the files to the Mac on the serial port. This does not seem like the best way. When I asked IBM what the emulation board on the PC does, they had no idea, and they did not know who I could call to ask....so much for good user support/technical support. Does anybody know the truth? It seems that if the System 34 can be connected to a IBM PC, there must be a way to connect it to a Mac. I would appreciate any and all comments on the subjects. P.S.: I doubt this is a topic of great interest to people besides me. If you agree, please reply by EMail instead of posting a reply. Thanks in advance, Federico (Fred) Genoese-Zerbi fgz@lakart.UUCP
