[comp.protocols.misc] X.PC Information and Update Policy

nett@gonzo.ETA.COM (Jerry Nettleton) (07/26/88)

I received the following information from Tymnet. It states that X.PC is a
public domain protocol and there is no charge for the X.PC dirver or its
concepts. When I get my copy from Tymnet, I will post it to the net with the
order form if anyone wants it and provided it's legal to do so.

                  X.PC INFORMATION AND UPDATE POLICY
                        Revised June 13, 1988
                  __________________________________

X.PC IS A PUBLIC DOMAIN PROTOCOL. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THE X.PC
DRIVER FOR THE PC OR ITS CONCEPTS.

However, for a small cost-defraying charge, the X.PC technical
documentation with source code on diskette is mailed out on the second
Monday of each month. It is sent by first class mail though the U.S.
Postal Service.

                       X.PC Packet Information

The X.PC Packet provides guidelines to interface the X.PC Driver to an
application on an IBM PC (and 100% compatible) that runs under MS-DOS
or PC-DOS, version 2.00 and above.

Two sample applications (with source code) are provided on diskettes
with the X.PC Driver Module. Also provided are development utilities
which monitor the interaction between your application and the X.PC
Driver Module.

If you wish to modify the driver or to port the X.PC Driver to other
hardware or operating environments, the source code for the X.PC
Driver Module is also provided. The code is mainly written in
Microsoft C, and IBM Macro-assembler to manipulate the 8250
communications processor.

Also included with the X.PC technical documentation and state diagrams
is a utility that allows a PC with two serial cards to be used as an
X.PC line monitor/protocol analyzer.

                           X.PC Packet Cost

A check for $35.00 ($45.00 if outside the United States) covers the
cost of five (5) diskettes, the documentation, and the postage and
handling.

                     X.PC Packet Rush Deliveries

Rush deliveries are processed only if the check and the completed
request are accompanied by a self-addressed (with billing account
number) airbill for overnight delivery. Self-addressed airbills for
Federal Express, DHL, or Airborne are accepted. No "bill recipient" or
COD (such as UPS) will be processed for rush delivery.
