[comp.protocols.misc] Kermit and CMS

phil@bcscal.UUCP (Phil Kemp) (01/26/89)

I have posted this to comp.protocols.kermit but I hope I can get an
answer ASAP...

Sorry for the inconvenience..

To all Kermit and IBM VM/CMS and MVS/TSO gurus!

I'm trying to get kermit up and running between a UNIX-PC and an IBM
VM/CMS mainframe. I need to use the tty mode of CMS and am running into
the Mainframe through a COMTEN comm. controller.

The problem is this:

I set the kermit on my UNIX-PC for no flow control, half duplex,
Turnaround I think is HEX 11. ( What ever it is the M/F and UNIX-PC
agree ). I get the file transfer started. The file header is passed and
the file goes zipping off to the Mainframe. 27 or 28 packets later the
transfer packs up.. It seems to happen at the same time each transfer. A
portion of the debug log follows.

.... still ok ....

Well any help would be appreciated...

We are looking at the ASCII/EBCDIC translation tables on our IBM as
there appears to be some proprietary mods in our CMS.

Please let me know, by e-mail, if anyone has gotten kermit to work on
vanilla CMS, and what tricks if any you had to use. ie. Kermit settings
on UNIX or the kermit startup and profile files on CMS.

Also if anyone could shed any light on why this is failing at this point
please also let me know.

Many thanks. This one has been a heck of a thing to work out..

If you prefer to talk over the phone E-mail your phone and I'll call
you.
