COS AND IDACOM ANNOUNCE JOINT DEVELOPMENT OF X.25
	CONFORMANCE TEST SYSTEM

	Washington, D.C., February 6, 1989...The Corporation for
Open Systems International (COS) and IDACOM Electronics
Ltd. announced the joint development of an X.25
Conformance Test System (XCTS) today at a press conference
during Communications Network '89. The XCTS is designed to
test X.25 protocol implementations to ensure compliance
with standards defined in the International Organization
for Standardization's (ISO) Open Systems Interconnection
	(OSI) Reference Model.

The test system should be commercially available in the
summer of 1989. An X.25 test service is already available
through COS headquarters. It uses the XCTS
for testing implementations of vendors' X.25 products.

Lincoln D. Faurer, President and CEO of COS, said he is
pleased that IDACOM joined COS as a regular member January
1, 1989. He added, "COS and IDACOM have been working on
the X.25 tester since October 1988. COS recognizes
IDACOM's significant involvement, particularly in providing
us with the real-time X.25 test engine which is, in part,
the foundation for the joint project. The development of
the X.25 tester demonstrates COS' leadership in defining
test methods and test suites and in providing
	internationally available, widely-supported testing
	capability."

Walter Stein, President and CEO of IDACOM Electronics Ltd.
added, "We believe that the development of the X.25 tester
is a significant step toward harmonization of test
standards in the OSI/ISDN community. IDACOM joined COS
because its emphasis on the promotion of OSI and ISDN
complements IDACOM's objectives of providing conformance
testing solutions which match the needs of a wide range of
	end users."

The XCTS runs on a combination of a standard Sun UNIX
workstation and an IDACOM MPT protocol analyzer, with
software written by COS and IDACOM. The tester's features
include ease of operation, increased consistency of testing
and high levels of automation. Testing and analysis are
	closely integrated into the tester.

COS and IDACOM also signed a licensing agreement for the
use of the XCTS by both organizations and third parties.
The agreement includes having COS conduct an X.25 test
service in the U.S. and Canada, and IDACOM conduct a
service in Canada; and both developing a customer training
	course for the tester.

Headquartered in McLean, VA, USA, COS is a not-for-profit
international research and development consortium of
information technology manufacturers and users. COS
develops, services and supports test systems that determine
conformance of computer and communications products and
	services against agreed-upon international standards.

Headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, IDACOM designs
and manufactures protocol testing systems, specializing in
sophisticated programmable products for high performance
applications. IDACOM provides network testing solutions,
custom solutions, as well as conformance testing solutions.
