Most protocols discussed on the net are standard interactive stuff; i.e., an acknowledgement of some sort is generated by the recipient upon successful transmission. I have an application for a uni-directional transfer where acknowledgement is not possible. Does anyone know if there has been any detailed work in this area and where I might find it? Thinking about the problem, it must be similar to a telemetry application, particularly in a deep-space environment where acknowledgement would be so delayed, if otherwise possible, as to be pointless. Is the only solution for reasonable probability of success to retransmit several times? If so, are there any formulas available to predict success as a function of, say, number of transmissions and quality of circuit? Thanks for any assistance available. I'd especially appreciate any referrals to books or articles. If there is any general interest, I'll be happy to post a summary of the response.
