As a few people may know, Zmodem allows for support of LZW data compression. However, I know of only *one* program that supports this feature: Pro-YAM for Unix. Moreover, it is a commercial program. I'm interested in finding out whether anyone knows of either of these: (1) A public-domain or free implementation of Zmodem for 4.3 BSD Unix, including support for LZW compression. (2) *Any* implementation of Zmodem for MS-DOS that includes support for LZW compression. -- Larry Gilbert, larryg@jacobs.cs.orst.edu, 1:152/201, +1 503 753 3511 (bbs) "It's all in a day's work for Bicycle Repairman. <snort>"

LZW data compression is supported in MSDOS programs Pro-YAM (commercial), ZCOMM (shareware), and DSZ (shareware) - all products of Omen Technology (Chuck Forsberg). ZCOMM and DSZ may be found in directory pd1:<msdos.zmodem> on Simtel20. The original source code for Zmodem (rzsz or if it's szrz..) should be available on several systems. I'm not sure if it's got support for LZW or not -- but it's a Unix implementation. The other question of course is.. unless you're sending un-compressed files, LZW compression will have little effect and can in many cases increase the transfer overhead. -- FidoNet : 1:135/20 (HST) ARPA/InterNet : jhom@umbio.miami.edu AlterNet : 7:48/20 uucp : uunet!gould!umbio!jhom --
