[comp.protocols.misc] XTP and real time communication

west@udel.EDU (James H West) (06/13/89)

Greetings,

I am currently working on a project (for the National Institute of Standards
and Technology, they don't run News so I'm posting from an old collage
account) to compare/Contrast OSI Transport class 4 with a protocol called
XTP (Defined by Protocol Engines, Inc. The architect is Greg Chesson).

XTP is suppose to occupy level three and four in the ISO OSI refernce
model. It is suppose to allow Real-Time communication across a network.

Does anyone have some experience with XTP?

Can anyone give some insights into the difference between XTP and other
transport protocols? (such as TCP or VMTP)

Has anyone had the chance to form opinions about XTP that they would care
to share?

I will post responses that are emailed to me (See the addres below),
but I read all these news groups so email or posting makes no difference
to me.

Thanks in advance for your help:

Jim West
