[comp.protocols.misc] QUESTION: IXF available for UNIX ?

johnm@gtenmc.UUCP (John Methot) (12/22/89)

We have an application that transfers files between Tandems (running Guardian)
and PC's using IXF (Information Exchange Facility). We have documentation
for IXF, which shares the document with PCT, a (tandem)6530 terminal
emulator for the PC. That documentation does not make it clear whether
IXF is a Tandem proprietary product (i.e., original) or was borrowed
from some pre-existing protocol.

We are migrating the product to the Sun386i, and would like to use
IXF for file transfer to avoid rewriting code on the Tandem, but we
can't seem to get IXF to work (under program control) through the dos
emulator that comes with the Sun386i.

Yes, I know that Tandem is going to release their TCP/IP implementation
(presumably including FTP?) real *soon* now. Still, the ideal solution
for us would be to find a version of IXF that runs on UNIX.
