[comp.protocols.misc] ping for X.25 Basic

sal@HUACHUCA-EMH5.ARMY.MIL (ASBF-CSO Lesh) (07/06/90)

	Does anyone know of a good introductory tutorial on X.25? The
requirement is a "ping"-like program for hosts running the X.25 Basic
protocol. The program will run on a 3B2 using AT&T Enhanced TCP/IP WIN/3B
software.

	Any comments anyone might care to make concerning the following
subjects would be appreciated:

1) the feasibility and time requirements for a rank beginner to develop
such a program;
2) archive sites for sources for any public-domain programs which "ping"
X.25 Basic hosts;
3) whether such a program can be developed without descending into the
Streams level to talk to the X.25 Streams module.
4) information about X.25 Streams module interfaces (if it is necessary
to develop at that level).

                              Thanks,

                              Steven Lesh

At cisco, we have discovered an excellant explanation of X.25, published
be Hewlett-Packard:

	"X.25: ThePSN Connection; An explanation of recomendation X.25"
