(This message is mostly FYI) Well, I finally figured out why Chooser takes so long to start up with a KIP gateway running. It is because the current KIP code responds only to DDP Zip Queries, not to the ATP Get[myzone, zonelist]. Any ATP packets to the ZIS socket (6) in the KIP gateway are currently identified and dropped. Thus, Chooser asks a few times for the name of the current zone, then when that fails it tries GetZoneList a couple of times. After that (and it seems like a long time to the user) Chooser gives up. Has anyone else written the ZIP stub needed to return the zone name from the KIP config info ? (I know Bill Croft may be doing this now.) Also, I believe this is why AppleShare is not happy about writing an "AppleShare Prep" file when running on a net with a KIP gateway. Rob

This problem is documented and the patches for kip0287 are included the CAP distribution 4 in cap/afp/kfps287-rtmp.c.diffs. Chooser is unbearable otherwise :-). I believe that the gw.srec in sumex.stanford.edu::ps:<info-mac>at-gw.srec has this patch installed. Charlie C. Kim User Services
