[comp.protocols.appletalk] Extensions to RTMP in the wings?

elwell@tut.cis.ohio-state.edu (Clayton Elwell) (09/22/87)

I was paging through the AppleTalk include file for the MPW Assembler
(v2.0A3), and I found a couple of lines that defined DDP type 5 as
"RTMP+", with one command code called "GetNetInfo". Does anyone know
what RTMP+ is? It's not in my copy of Inside AppleTalk...

Clayton:
At first I thought that might have something to do with EtherTalk
and supportting more than 254? nodes on a cable. But, I found a reference
to DDP type 5 in my June 1986 copy of Inside AppleTalk on page V-9. There
it is claimed to be a "RTMP request" which allows non-bridge nodes to
"request the numberof the network they are on and the address of a bridge
on that network".

So, It doesn't look like an extension. But is anyone, outside
Apple, using it?
