I am interested in where anyone has done any work on a ATP-->serial driver. For the serial-->ATP route there are several solutions I know of. The DA 'Asynch AppleTalk' and R-Server are such devices, that allow access to an AppleTalk network from an incoming serial line. Last January I read in an Alisa Systems brochure that they intended to also do such a bridge, but as a driver so that one could use any terminal program to log in, fire up a server, and exit 'into' the serial ATP driver. Does anyone know if they put this out? The ATP-->serial driver would be useful for people on AppleTalk networks connected with FastPaths to bigger systems, so that they could use their favorite terminal program to access the mini/mainframe at very high speeds. Currently pcLINK and NSCA Telnet are the two applications I know of that take advantage of ATP-speed terminal sessions. What I think would be very elegant, however, is merely a driver so that *any* terminal program could use this. There are, of course, some obvious problems--terminal programs in general handle up to 19K baud, perhaps 57K. Buffering ATP down to this level would be necessary. Yet, I believe that is what R-Server does. I will gladly collect responses and post a summary.
