[comp.protocols.appletalk] One-way gateway?

mckay@COURAGEOUS.ECN.PURDUE.EDU (Dwight D McKay) (01/09/88)

Over Christmas break the local hardware folks wired up a lab here with
PhoneNet. We've now got an AppleTalk net with about 20 Mac Pluses, a laser,
two imagewriters and a Kinetics box (running KIP).

If you run chooser or CheckNet on this net you can see the 6 other
appletalk nets we have, all their printers, fileservers, and all the
CAP stuff and AUFS servers we have set up. Sounds great, right?

BUT, from any other appletalk network, you can't see anything on the
above network (call it "the wierd net"). If you are on a VAX whose
/etc/atalk.local file uses the Kinetics box which is on the
wierd net, you see all. Other VAXes can't see into the wierd net,
however.

To top it all off, I have been away and unable to make any software
changes. This same kinetics box (same config, same VAX config files)
worked fine before Christmas when it was on a much smaller length on
traditional appletalk wire with about 5-6 Mac Pluses!?!?!?

Any ideas you PhoneNet/KIP gurus?
