HELP! I'm having trouble TELNETing out of my AppleTalk to the Internet.
The hardware configuration:
Ethernet connected to Kinetics Box running KIPs
PhoneNet connecting Kinetics Box to Hayes InterBridge A1 port
(NET number 6, ZONE name MAC-NET)
PhoneNet connecting Mac SE to Hayes InterBridge AppleTalk A2 port
(NET number 13, ZONE name MAC-NET)
The software configuration:
Mac SE running NCSA Telnet 2.1
TOPS running on both networks
Config.tel file has an entry for the Kinetics Box with an IP
subnet address of 6 and a gateway=1 parameter.
Now to the problem:
The Mac SE on NET 13 can go through the InterBridge to use NET 6's
printers and hard disks (via TOPS). So far, so good. However, when I
try to use NCSA TELNET 2.1 (using an IP subnet address of 13), I get a
"Local host or gateway not responding" message. Now if I move the Mac
SE over to NET 6 (thus bypassing the InterBridge) and try TELNETing
again (using an IP subnet address of 6), it works fine. So, it looks
like I can't get the Mac SE on NET 13 and the Kinetic box on NET 6 to
communicate. Moving the Mac back to NET 13, I've tried TELNETing using
an IP subnet address of 6 (no luck), and also tried changing the
config.tel file to give the Kinetics box an IP subnet address of 13
(ditto previous luck). The Kinetics box cannot be moved from NET 6 to
NET 13, and the Mac SE needs to stay on NET 13 and not on NET 6.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Many Thanks & Regards,
