I've been trying to fetch the CAP bug-report files from phri, as recently mentioned by phri!roy, and have been great difficulties. I set up the anonymous uucp connection per roy's instructions, and have been able to connect with his system and to send uucp file-transfer requests. However, my success stops there... the files are never transferred. Basic symptom: our system calls phri just after 11 PM, successfully logs on for anonymous uucp, goes through the uucp handshake sequence, and sends a file-transfer request. Two minutes later, the uucp log shows "FAILED"; it appears that the uucp connection is being broken (by one end or the other) before the first file is transferred. An hour later, our system tries again, with exactly the same result. Eventually, uucp stops trying ("MAX RETRIES"). The failure-to-transfer-a-file occurs for wildcarded file-transfer requests (which send an "X" request) and for individual requests (which send an "R" request). The logs at phri are consistent with our logs: they see the "R" or "X" request arrive, followed a couple of minutes later by a "FAIL". Curiously enough, roy reports that other sites have successfully transferred these files with anonymous uucp; even more curiously, our system has successfully uucp'ed from uunet with exactly the same uucp setup that we're using in our attempt to fetch files from phri. It seems as if our two systems are somehow incompatible, but I can't figure out why. Can anyone out there suggest a reason why these transfers aren't working? And, could some kind soul who has successfully uucp'ed the bug files from phri send them to me via email (either plain-text, or uuencoded .Z, whichever is smaller)? advTHANKSance! -- Dave Platt UUCP: ...!{ames,sun,uunet}!coherent!dplatt Internet: coherent!dplatt@ames.arpa, ...@sun.com, ...@uunet.uu.net

I missed some of the bug reports for CAP that appeared in info-appletalk. Could someone (Columbia?) please make them available via anonymous ftp? (Like Dave Platt, I have had problems trying to get them via uucp from phri.) Thanks, Phil Farrell
