[comp.protocols.appletalk] Banners in CAP

At the time this discussion went by I was not worrying about printing
using CAP. Now that the discussion has died down I am, naturally, trying
to improve our printing services.

I've located pstext and got papif up and running nicely. I did not
enable the STATUS code as it locked up papif in some manner or another
on our Masscomps and I did not have the time to deal with it. I even
found some code from somewhere that will do banner pages at the beginning
or end of the job as long as a .banner file is present.

And there is the rub. Is there something out there that will generate
a nice .banner file or should I just cook up a quick routine to do it
based on the user name and host?

Lastly, does anyone have a routine that will reverse the order of the
pages? It should not be too hard to do if you just scan through looking
for "showpages" and do some reordering but, again, I lack the time to
play with such things at the moment.

Hmm, and while I am asking, does anyone have a modification to pstext
that will put a header on the top of each page? I've already hacked papif
and pstext a bit so making papif pass the file name, user name, or whatever
to pstext will not be too much more work.

To anyone who is curious, we did get CAP up and running using a Kinetics
Multibus card along with a local driver on a two CPU Masscomp. I tore out
all of the DDP and lower levels, removed abSleep in favor of a Masscomp
priority handling scheme and packets now get delivered differently, but
it all seems to work, at least as far as NBP and PAP go. Next step is
to check out aufs.
