Is there anyone who knows anything about the ethernet chip on the Apple EtherTalk cards, "DP8390"? Is this a custom chip, or is it a standard one? It looks like the EPROM is directly connected to the 8390, so perhaps it (the 8390) can boot by itself. /ragge@nada.kth.se

The DP8390 is National Semiconductor's ethernet controller. It's quite a normal ethernet controller except that it's pretty easy to program (modulo some bugs in the chip). It's a standard part that is used in other ethernet interfaces, most notably the Western Digital WD8003 for the IBM PC. -- - john romkey UUCP: romkey@kaos.uucp ARPA: romkey@xx.lcs.mit.edu ...harvard!spdcc!kaos!romkey Telephone: (617) 776-3121
