[comp.protocols.appletalk] Solana R-Server

crowe@whuts.UUCP (CROWE) (01/20/88)

I am looking for those with experience with Solana's R-Server. I have
a 2400 baud modem at home with dial-in capability to our Datakit network
at work.

I would like to use the R-Server (or equivalent) get TOPS access to files
on a Mac at work.

What software comes with the R-server? Async Atalk? Is it programmable?
Probably not. To the point, the connect procedure will require typing a
password and then a destination.

How can I do it assuming that I can get the connection right?

Thanks

Help,

We just received a Solana R-Server for evaluation. We have a very
large network with about 20 zones. The bridges used in building
this network are Hayes Interbridges and Kinetics FastPath Standalones.
We are running the most recent version of KIP in our K-Box.

Whenever I run the R-Server, it corrupts the zone list on the K-box
connected to it's network. After a while, people on the net cannot
see zones and even have trouble finding laserwriters on their own
local network. When I unplug the R-Server, everything suddenly
works.

This is the second R-Server we have tried. The first one had a
hardware failure right out of the box. Can anyone tell me if they
have ever successfully used an R-Server with a KIP based Kbox?
