We have some Apple Laserwriter II NTXs to print postscript files. We would like to be able to direct output from our IBM mainframes (eg. 3081 running VM CMS and 3090 running MVS/XA) to the Laserwriter. We would be interested in any experience with protocol converters to allow the lw to connect to an IBM 3274 terminal control unit and look like an IBM 3287 printer. We could drive it with RSCS V2.2 or JES328X. We have also heard there may be a way to talk to the lw via our LocalTalk network (we have localtalk, a Kinetics Fastpath between those and our Ethernet, and the IBM 5798-FAL VM TCP/IP software). If we could get to the lw from BOTH the mainframe and localtalk that would be a plus but not imperative. We DO have some IBM 7171s and have fooled around trying to connect the lw to a port defined as a printer, but results are "intermittent". We have also looked at the VM/CMS Unlimited RAPID product but that seems like over- kill to simply transfer postscript files AND the company is going through some shaky times right now... We are also aware of the U of Kentucky drivers for Laserwriters but those are for RSCS V1.3 and we have V2.2. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. As usual we wanted to have this going "yesterday" but... We intend to support Waterloo Script (88.1) and SAS/GRAPH output and more with this mainframe connection. Of course we can now download files and print them but we would like to make this a bit more "hands off". Please include me in your replies if possible as I am not directly on either of these lists. Thank you for your help! ----------- Marty Hoag ND Higher Education Computer Network US Mail: NDSU Computer Center Phone: (701)-237-8639 PO Box 5164 / UCCS Bitnet: NU021172@NDSUVM1 (NOTE 0 = ZERO) Fargo, ND 58105 ARPA: NU021172@VM1.NoDak.EDU UUCP: ...!psuvax1!NDSUVM1.BITNET!NU021172
