[comp.protocols.appletalk] Info on "CAP"

elewis@olympos.cs.umd.edu (Ed Lewis) (08/25/88)

I have just subscribed to this newsgroup and noticed some references to CAP.
Coincidently, I was told to look into finding this package and/or information
about it. All I was given to do this was a 5 page description of CAP which
apparently is (exactly) one year old. (Patch 7 date is Aug 25, 1987.)

At my site we do have a Kinetics Fastpath box, but I'm not sure about SUMEX
software (mentioned in description). Is the SUMEX software (still) needed,
and where can I get it?

The description gives a reference to a computer with anonymous ftp at Columbia,
"cu20b.columbia.edu," but the notes about the computer no longer apply - the
directories mentioned are not on that computer as far as I can tell. Also, in
a notes section, the description says "Documentation - in very short supply."
Has this changed?

I would appreciate any information on how I could acquire the CAP software and
install it for Macintosh computers (Pluses, SE's and II's) on both Appletalk
and Ethernet using a Sun 3 as an Appleshare file server. I realize a recent
topic on the net is the connection of Macs on Ethernet, but I haven't been
able to follow it because I joined in the middle of it.

Any performance comments would also be appreciated by Sun and Mac users.
