[comp.protocols.appletalk] Using Fastpaths

paul@aucs.UUCP (Paul Steele) (08/30/88)

We will soon be dividing our MacJANET network using Fastpaths. The server
will be placed directly on the ethernet backbone (using the IPT ethernet
card), while the network itself will be split into two groups using two
fastpaths. I'm a little fuzzy about Appletalk Zones and Appletalk network
numbers, and the Fastpath manual is next to useless. Our situation here is
complicated since we want to run NCSA Telnet from the Mac stations if at all
possible. Personally, I want to avoid using zones since we don't really need
them here (I think). Can we avoid using zones, or should we use them? Is
support for TCP/IP going to complicate matters significantly? Should we get
KIP/CAP, or will K-Star be sufficient? Any thoughts on this would be greatly
appreciated.
