To all

I have a glossy on the Cayman Gator Box which essentially does what the
kinetics box does and more besides.

Has anyone had any experience of using one? does it coexist with kinetics
boxes okay as we already have one of them.It also uses its own telnet
application and I would like more info on its facilities etc. How does it
compare to NCSA telnet?

As far as I know nobody in the UK has got one but of course the states
usually get these new products earlier so I hope someone out there has used
one.

Also if Cayman systems subscribe to this bulletin board, the glossy shows a
diagram which implies that any DecNet file server can act as a appleshare
file server WITHOUT any software residing on that server. The Gator box
apparently does every translation needed.

Any information would be appreciated.

Current knowledge at present is that Cayman won't be shipping until
next month or so. I've had one on order since I picked up the
literature at this past Uniforum tradeshow.

I've been testing the Cayman Gatorbox this week and have run into some
problems. I would be grateful for any input.

I have, in addition to the Gatorbox, 8 Kinetics fastpaths (kfps-2, v.3.0
proms) all running the 0688 KIP code. The gatorbox is configured in the
atalkatab file as being in the same KIP zone (appletalk-in-IP) as four
other kfps's, but it has it's own localtalk zone (called gator, the other
zones are called cit87, cit116-1 cit116-2, and cit171).

- First problem: two CAP servers in cit87 do not show up in the chooser
from a mac in the gator zone. However, a CAP server in a different KIP
zone does show up correctly. A Laserwriter in cit87 also shows up correctly. An appleshare server in cit116-1 shows up correctly. If I
look from any other zone, everything shows up correctly.

- Second problem: using NFS to a Sun4, I get an 'Ownership violation error'
when trying to mount an Appleshare volume.

- Other problems include headaches in downloading the software to the box,
software crashes, and other minor problems.
This looks like a nifty little box, if I could solve the above problems :-(
I do have the IP working with telnet and tn3270, it works the same as a
kfps, and I do like the auto-tftp reloads it does when it crashes (saves
my shoes from wearing out when i have to reload kfps's scattered about
campus :-) ) Any help would be appreciated. thanx in advance!
