I've heard that there is (or will soon be) an AppleLink gateway to the Internet so that we can send mail from our Unix systems to AppleLink addresses. Does any one know of this connection? Rumor has it that the gateway work is coming out of Stanford. Thanks, Kathryn Woods Genentech genie.gene.COM

The AppleLink/BITNET Mail Relay pilot has just been extended "until further notice". But it seems that because of BITNET's and Apple's rules commerical use of the relay is not permitted. (I can get you the messy legal stuff if you want to see it.) The good news is that there are a number of ways to get a mail relay like Apple's setup. The CE software people are rumored to be working on a QuickMail to AppleLink relay product. The relay Apple uses is a commerical service called DASnet. (Forwarded message about it follows.) I hope this helps. SaS -------
