This is question about future trends in appletalking in general.

I have heard about the gator box and have already a kinetics installed here
at the computer science dept at Aston University. From the detailed
information about the gator box it sounds like a wonderful machine but I am
concerned about the type of media used to connect macs to the box. Now
localtalk cabling is cheap but SLOW, the gator box allows for replaceable
interface boards. What type of interface board is currently available
besides the localtalk card? and what is envisaged to become available in
the future, what about twisted pair ethernet for instance or a connection
card to broadband.
In addition will the gatorbox be compatible with the new products to be
released from the joint DEC APPLE venture (end 89) or will this venture
produce their own gateway?

Finally I heard some rumours on this net a while ago that apple were to
release a tcp/ip network. Is this true?

By the way I am also using CAP here on a sun but have completely failed at
porting the code to our orion 1/05 and sequent balance system. After
looking at the c code it was shown that the CAP c code is very unportable
and makes a lot of assumptions about the c compiler. We have much stricter
c compilers here.

If you know anything of the above please reply.

Thanks
