We are putting together a network of around 100 macintoshes, which
will be connected via PhoneNet and bridges and very possibly a few FastPaths
of Gatorboxes. We need fast printing, but nothing fancy--just straight
ASCII. Are there any Lineprinters out there we can use? Can we have the
students send print jobs to a cue say on a SUN so that they can be printed
out at high speed on a line printer?
We rather not invest in Laserwriters when all the students need are
printouts of their Modula-2 projects.
Please e-mail me, I'll post a summary if I get an adequate response.
Thanks.

I have the same idea, and the funds to pay someone for 2 months
to come up with a filter to do this, but no available manpower.
My idea is simple: Make lwsrv masquerade as a LaserWriter in
the Chooser. When sucking up the PostScript from Modula-II
or Turbo-Pascal or whatever, strip the PostScript and send it
to the lineprinter.
If you find a neat solution, please let me know. You will make
500 1st and 2nd year undergraduates very happy!
