[comp.protocols.appletalk] Help with KIP ...

inei@cs.glasgow.ac.UK (Nick Nei) (12/20/88)

This is a desperate cry for help with KIP...

I am trying to upgrade to KIP/0688 but when I loading with FastPath
Manager, it stalls for an uncomfortable few seconds then says
"Sorry the gateway appears to be busy". I click the OK button, then
GO button, then diagnostics says KFPS lives. I run atis and atistest -
they appear OK. I start aufs, and it's log looks OK (SPInit complete),
but I can't see the bloody AUFS server in the Chooser. Nor can I see
lwsrv, all I can see is the IPGATEWAY and IPADRESS. Has anyone got a clue?

Background
==========
We have predominantly SUNs (UNIX 4.2 BSD), one MIPS (UNIX 4.3 BSD),
and one VAX-11/750 (UNIX 4.2 BSD) and some other UNIXs not worth
mentioning. We disabled redirected broadcast on our MIPS
(i.e. "netmask 0xff000000 broadcast 126.0.0.0"), so we don't
comply with RFC919/922.

The machine running atalkad is 126.10.0.41 (yap) and the gateway
is 126.10.0.65 (and other gateways will be 126.11.0.65, etc).

/etc/atalkatab is
.................................................................
55.10	N2	126.10.0.0	Omneity #Dept Ethernet

55.10	H	126.10.0.65	Omneity #Dept Ethernet
90.10	KC	126.10.0.65	Omneity #appletalk
	I126.10.0.0	I126.10.0.41 #ipbroad ipname
	I126.10.0.41	L0 #ipdebug ipfile

	LX0 S2	S16 #flags ipstatic ipdynamic
	S90.10	S55.10 #atneta atnete

and /etc/atalk.local is

# mynet mynode myzone
55.10 41 Omneity
# bridgenet bridgenode bridgeIP
55.10 65 126.10.0.65

Finally my config file is

Why does the gateway say it is busy? Why is it that AUFS does
not appear in the Chooser (nor does lwsrv)? Can anyone advise?
I will be most grateful for any response, even unhelpful sympathetic
ones (because I always loose 2 years of my life when I even look
at /etc/atalkatab).
