                             POSITIONS AVAILABLE

The Computer Sciences Department of the University of Wisconsin
has been funded by the National Science Foundation to design and
implement a facility for supporting research in distributed com-
puting. This five year project, nicknamed Crystal, is intended
to support research in distributed operating systems, program-
ming language support for distributed applications, alternative
workstation styles, multiprocessor database machines, and paral-
lel image processing applications. The hardware for this project
will consist of approximately 50 processors (for example, VAX
730's or MC68000 based systems) interconnected with 100
Mbit/second frequency-multiplexed, broadband, local- area network
interfaces. We presently have two full-time positions available
for this project. One person is needed to help design and imple-
ment the Crystal operating system. This position requires at
least an M.S. in Computer Science. Applicants should be able to
demonstrate experience in operating system implementation and
compiler construction. Another position is available to those
interested in the development of customized support hardware.
This position requires at least a B.S. degree in Electrical En-
gineering. Salaries for both positions are competitive (25K to
35K depending on experience), especially considering the cost of
living in Madison. For more information contact:
