[comp.protocols.appletalk] KIP: adding dynamic ip addresses

alan@metasoft.UUCP (Alan Epstein) (02/01/89)

i'm relatively new to the KIP software and have a question.

background:
we have a Kinetics FP-3 interfacing our Sun to an appletalk network.
we use Telnet on the mac successfully, configured to allocate IP
addresses dynamically. the 'atalkad' program starts up at boot time,
and all works as advertised.

problem:
what i want to do is raise the number of dynamically allocated
IP addresses for use by Telnet. when the system was setup, the file
/etc/atalkatab was fixed to allocate 2 static and 6 dynamic IP
addresses (which is does). i changed the parameter to permit 12
dynamic IP addresses in /etc/atalkatab, but with no effect.

the atalkalog shows that atalkad (re)read the table but i am
still unable to take advantage of the additional addresses.

i've tried calling atalkad with 'boot' and 'route' as arguments, and
even turned the FP-3 off, to no avail.

for what it's worth, the atalkatab table looks like this:

55.99	H	192.9.99.1	METAZ #
56.1	K	192.9.99.240	METAZ #
	I192.9.99.255	I192.9.99.1 #ipbroad ipname
	I192.9.99.1	L0 #ipdebug ipfile
	L0 L0 L0 L0	S0 S0 #ipother unused unused
	LX0 S2	S12 #flags ipstatic ipdynamic
	S56.1	S55.99	"METAZ" #atneta atnete zonea

any suggestions?

please send replies via e-mail.

thanks.
