I have this old PC Mac Bridge card from Tangent Technologies that I would like to use in a Compaq 286 Portable, however, it does not work. I am using IBM PC DOS version 3.30. When I load ABLAP version 2.01A it tells me it is acquiring an AppleTalk station address. At that point it sends out 45 packets to itself, i.e. to an address that it seems to be picking randomly. If I remember right what I once read in Inside AppleTalk, that's what it is supposed to do to see whether anyone responds. ABLAP then reports "AppleTalk station address acquired" and terminates. ABALP does that even if the board is not installed, i.e. it does not detect its absence. When I execute selpr version 2.10B, it sends out a broadcast and all laser printers respond, but SELPR reports No LaserWriters Found. I have also tried Apple's LW.EXE without success. It tells me "No zones were found on this network" even though there are three, and it does not list any printers either. When I called the TechSupport number I got a tape telling me there was no further information available about this disconnected number. I faintly remember having read that Tangent Technologies went out of business. The dealer from whom we probably bought the board is no help either. Can anyone help us? Do we have incompatible software? Has anyone taken over the Tangent products? (I think they designed or even manufactured Apple's LocalTalk PC card too. Any help, hints, or leads would be greatly appreciated. Wolfgang N. Naegeli Oak Ridge National Laboratory wnn@dsunx1.dsrd.ornl.gov (128.219.96.46) (615) 574-6143
