[comp.protocols.appletalk] KFPS-4 to 802.3 problems, and Very large AppleTalk via KIP

sproule@purt1 (Bill Sproule) (03/30/89)

We are presently cutting over all our network to use exact IEEE 802.3-1985
specs. We are having some problems with connectivity to Kinetics FP-4's.
I would be very grateful if anyone who is using straight 802.3 to a kfps
would contact me.

On a lighter note, we have connected, via KIP, our AppleTalk network
(13 kfps's, gatorbox, CAP servers, cisco routers, 17 zones, etc...) to
an AppleTalk network at Penn State. We have been able to print, access
file servers, etc. The speed in file servers is only a couple of seconds
slower (35 seconds to launch a file from a local CAP server, 40 seconds
from here to a CAP server a PSU...We do have a fast link between Princeton
and PSU, and the connection is fairly stable.) I would be interested if
those of you who have done this before, would send me any timing tests that
you have run, so we can compare notes. Anyone else who would like to try and
connect sites, please feel free to contact me, and we'll give it a go.
(This is nifty!)

Thanx for the help!
