I've done more analysis. papof.c expects, for some odd reason, that the data stream will consist of banner text followed by ^Y^A followed by the actual text of the file. However, SunOS4 (and, I presume, 4.3BSD in general), don't send ANYTHING before the ^Y^A when there are other filters in the house. So papof always sees ^Y^A first thing out. Do 4.2 (or non-Sun 4.3) systems really send some banner-like garbage to the of filter before the ^Y^A? Or is there some columbiaism involved? Anybody out there seen anything useful on this front? -- Benson I. Margulies
