[comp.protocols.appletalk] Monitor Program

donndeli@sunburn.aero.org (James Donndelinger) (04/07/89)

I'm looking for a good monitor program for Appletalk. I would like to
use the program as a means of auditing packet activity on the net.
I've heard about a program called Carbon Copy. Is this available for
Appletalk? How well does it work? Are there any recommendations for
other monitoring packages? Please e-mail responses and I'll summarize
to the net.

Thanks,

~Jim

I haven't received any responses on a monitor program so I thought I
would rephrase the question. What I'm really looking for is the
capability to examine packets to determine: if someone is attempting
to guess login IDs or passwords, and if there is any unusual activity
from a given account (i.e. a hacker has broken into an account and is
attempting to do things the legitimate user has never or rarely done).
Any information or pointers to information you can supply would be
greatly appreciated.

What OS are you running? And what's it got to do with AppleTalk? If you're
running VMS, investigate Breakin Detection/Evasion - it comes with the system.

Since this is comp.protocols.appletalk I thought it was understood
that the monitor program I'm looking for is for an Appletalk network.
Sorry if that was not clear enough for you.
