MANAGER - COMPUTER SUPPORT DEPARTMENT Kitt Peak National Observatory Tucson, Arizona Kitt Peak National Observatory has an immediate opening for an experienced individual to manage our Computer Support Department. The individual chosen will manage an experienced group of 19 professional exployees who provide software for telescope control, data acquisition, and data reduction & analysis. Personnel assigned to the group are responsible for developing software and operational support of: 4 PDP-11/24's & 4 PDP-11/44's (programmed in Forth) used for real-time instrument control at various telescopes, 3 VAX-11/750's (2 UNIX, 1 VMS) for data reduction and analysis, and 1 Cyber 170/720 (NOS/BE, to be replaced by a large VAX running UNIX in 12-24 months). He/She will manage implementation of an existing program to further expand the interactive image processing facility. The position involves both hardware and software functions, coordination of computer maintenance, training of operations personnel, assisting in problem definition, system design, and programming in an astronimical environment. The successful candidate will have a well rounded background in scientific programming/analysis with experience in a supervisory or management capacity. A Bachelor's degree in a physical science, engineering or computer science is required; an advanced degree is desirable.
