Gentle reader: I have an Mac IIcx that shows some anolomous behaviour that, in short, prevents it from using localTalk, and I hope some reader may have an insight that explains the problem. Here's the evidence: When connected to a net it does not show anything in the chooser, although connected directly to a lw it seems to work. It does not seem to be a physical problem, because I can run "peek" from it, and it shows the net traffic correctly. However, when I peek at it from another machine while it runs chooser, the packets are garbled (this is also on a 2 node net.). It neither runs nor appears on the Farralon NetCheck desk accessory. When booted with the system on a floppy, the same problem appears. The next thing I will try is reformating the hard disk, to remove the last vestige of doubt about system software being the cause. My current suspicions are: If it receives via peek, have I ruled out any hardware faults, or is there an additional test of the localTalk hardware that would clear things up at this level? Is there anything different about the cx, in hardware or ROM that might explain this? MIght there be something screwed up with NBP (for the chooser, and checkNet) that might not be diagnosed by booting off a system on floppy? Any insights will be greatly appreciated. -johnmark John Mark Agosta 415/ 723-3994
