Warren Mayer wants to monitor an AppleShare server using Timbuktu/Timbuktu Remote. I have heard of this done using these products where the server was a headless IIcx (ie, no monitor or monitor card). However, Warren says his network is a PC using Novell 2.15. This isn't an AppleShare server; It's only a Novell server translating AFP packets to novells packets, isn't it? Therefor, Timbuktu/Remote shouldn't work since it's not on a Mac. Right? Just my own guess. But it would sure be neat if his idea works. We also have recently installed a small Mac network on Novell 2.15 and I wouldn't mind having some of the capabilities Warren is speaking of. Speaking of Novell 2.15, I also hear that Novell doesn't pass AFP packet between it's gateways; Thus, if we put other Local-Talk gateways off of our Novell network, those users won't be able to see users or devices on other Local-Talk gateways off the server. Can anyone confirm this? (We have to run seperate local-talk segments off the Novell network since Local-Talk has such a limited range as compared to the backbone our Novell will be using.) Also, has anyone heard any info on ARCNET cards for the Macs? Most of our PCs Connect to our Novell server via Arcnet and we were considering connecting our Macs to the same hubs our PCs connect to. Is anyone doing this? Fred Seaton Apple Support Coordinator & ECN User Coordinator Academic Computing Western Illinois University Macomb, IL 61455 MUCM000@ECNCDC.BITNET
