[comp.protocols.appletalk] Are TurboNet ST connectors really better?

Ralph.Hyre@IUS3.IUS.CS.CMU.EDU (05/24/89)

These are the ones with LED's to show activity and self-termination
capability.

Has anyone had any problems with them? Are they superior to everything
else out there?

In general, our experience has been that they are better. We have had
particularly good results installing them at all our laser printers, which
tend to put more noise on the network than other devices.
Under very difficult conditions we have found it necessary to still plug in
a PhoneNet resistor or to use an unterminated PhoneNet connector instead of
a TurboNet ST. The LEDs by the way are hard to see through the black
casing in a bright room. You need to get very close to it and watc it
precislely at the right angle to see sporadic small packet. A dense stream
of packets is much easier to notice.
