[comp.protocols.appletalk] NCSA Telnet timing out

frankh@durin.sparta.COM (Frank Halsema) (06/17/89)

I was wondering if there is a configuration parameter for NCSA Telnet
to adjust the time out of active connections. We seem to have connections
timing out if they are inactive for more than ~ 5 minutes. I don't
mind time outs but 5 minutes is rather short. I looked through the
manual and saw no mention of a time out. I am also wondering if
I have some problem that causes the windows to close. The configuration
is NCSA Telnet 2.2 running through a fastpath 4.

Thanks for any advise!!

NCSA Telnet never times out connections. It will leave windows up even
if the host has been down for days. It is up to the user to decide when
enough is enough.

If your windows are going away, the host is timing them out, probably
because you are running a screen-saver. Many screen-savers, especially
popular are early versions of Pyro!, take away all background processing
while they are active. After about five minutes of NCSA Telnet being
silenced by the screen-saver, the host times you out.

Later versions of Pyro! have been known to work. I use Moire.
