I sent our KFP-1 to Kinetics to be upgrade about two months ago. I found out yesterday that Kinetics now acknowledges that there are problems with the upgrades, but that they do not intend to fix them (if they can find them). I have reread the articles from May and June about problems people have had with the upgrades and would like to hear if people would still upgrade, trade up to a KFP-4 or just leave it as is. Some of the difficulties we are having in making the decisions are: 1. Non upgraded KFP 1-3 will not be able to run Appletalk Phase 2. Kinetics has said that Phase II for the upgrade boxes will not immediately be available (will they ever be?). 2. Localtalk networks are very slow and eventually if not sooner we will switch the Mac's to ethernet cards. 3. We probably can continue running the phase I appletalk, that is until 254 ethernet devices running appletalk protocols appear on our campus network. (Even though we control the medium we do not control what people put on it. That is until they have problems...) So upgrade or not? thanks mark

We are currently working on an AppleTalk Phase 2 module for the upgraded FastPath models 1, 2, and 3. I would hope that it would be available in October. Unfortunately, these things take time... > So upgrade or not? The FastPath 4 is a much better hardware platform than the models 2 and 3, and it also has enough memory to support the new features that we continue to add to our download module (K-STAR). If you are interested in better performance and future enhancements, I would recommend the FastPath 4. Karen Frisa Kinetics, Inc. karen@kinetics.kinetics.com
