[comp.protocols.appletalk] AppleTalk -> KIP -> AppleTalk

sadler@snox.i88.isc.com (Jon Sadler) (08/23/89)

(I believe that this has been talked about previously -- but unfortunately,
my archiver didn't grab it. Time for some more hacking....)

Considering the following:

!------! ! !--------! ! !------! ! !-----!
! Lzr !----! ! ! IP !----! ! Fast !---! ! Mac !
! Wrtr ! ! !--! Router ! !--! Path ! !-----! !
!------! ! !------! ! !--------! ! !------! ! !-----!
            ! ! Fast !--! ! !
            !--! Path ! ! Ethernet Local
            ! !------! ! Talk
            ! ! Zone1
	  Local Ethernet
          Talk
          Zone2

NOTE: "FastPath" can be interchanged with any CAP/KIP capable AppleTalk
       bridge.

a) Is it possible for anything in Local Talk Zone1 to talk to anything in
Local Talk Zone2? If not, then why not? (Isn't KIP just seen as another
zone and is capable of letting FastPath's do bridge "Zone queries"?)

b) What software is necessary?

c) Is there any particular advantage for using FastPaths rather than GaterBoxes
   or some other bridge?

d) Does anyone have an atalkatab for the above scenerio? Or that would work in
   a simular situation?

All the help that you people can give would be wonderful.
